I actually only met Rick on a few occasions after I started at the Program as an Intern as he had already left the Program but would stop by for visits once in awhile. He was always very full of life, enthusiasm and dreams.
He kept up with me by phone calls and emails. He never was able to make it back for any of our reunions or celebrations but always sent good wishes from Hawaii. Traveling was not something he could do. He was very grieved when Dean Neal Gault died.
He always gave me encouragement and good wishes on the success of the Program. It was something he was always passionate about.
I had an opportunity to speak with him shortly before he died in the hospital. His voice was hardly audible but he seemed very lucid. I was able to tell him how much he was appreciated and loved and how greatful I was for all of his support.
